Jon Stewart Can't Deal With Arizona's 'Morally Repugnant' Anti-Gay Discrimination Bill

'MORALLY REPUGNANT'

On Wednesday, Arizona's Governor Jan Brewer vetoed a bill passed by the state legislature that would have made it legal for business owners to refuse gay people on religious freedom grounds. And while it's commendable that she did so, Jon Stewart took a hard look at how Arizona even go to that point of bigotry on last night's "Daily Show."

"You are lucky you're warm," Stewart said to Arizona, citing the state's ultra-conservative policies on gun control, abortion and other social issues. Without the weather, Arizona would be "the world's largest condom and nuclear waste dump."

Many lawmakers who supported the bill publicly backed off their position, an act of contrition that clearly delighted Stewart. But he still found it frustrating that Arizona politicians, such as Sen. John McCain, are mostly purporting concern that the bill could push away potential visitors, like tourists and the NFL, rather than because the bill is "morally repugnant."

"This is where you are now, Arizona," Stewart said. "You've made yourself too homophobic and dickish for professional football."

Of course, it wouldn't be a Jon Stewart rant without bringing in Fox News' War on Christmas, which he blamed for Arizona's culture of outsized persecution for their religious beliefs. Check out the second half of the segment above, and the first part below.
