Emperor Elagabalus invented a prototype of the contemporary whoopee cushion and pranked dinner guests by slipping the air pillows under them or having slaves set the toy by people's feet. Elagabalus only ruled for four years and was executed at the age of 18 after a reign described as one of "the grossest pleasures and ungoverned fury."
