A powerful new web series is currently seeking funding in hopes of seeing more queer artists of color given a mainstream platform.
Called "LATRELL!" the web series is billed as a "satirical talk show" written and created by NYU Tisch School of the Arts graduate Brandon Kyle Goodman. The star of the web series, Latrell, is described by co-director Sasha Sagan as “the love child of RuPaul and Stephen Colbert.” "LATRELL!" is slated to be a weekly series rolled out over the course of 12 weeks and set to premiere in Spring 2014.
"After graduating from Tisch School of Performing Arts at NYU, I noticed a continual lack of young artists of color and gay artists in the mainstream," Goodman notes on his Indiegogo campaign. "Many of those who are seem to be confined to a box of outdated archetypes and stereotypes. In creating this new web series, 'LATRELL!,' my team and I strive to challenge this by creating a platform where opinions are validated regardless of race, class, gender, or sexuality."
