John Cameron Mitchell Blames Grindr For David's Death In 'Girls'

'He Might Have Passed Out During An Orgasm And Fell Into The Hudson.'

We were all taken aback by this season when Hannah's ebook editor, David, suddenly dropped dead in "Girls." But nobody was as shocked as John Cameron Mitchell.

Mitchell, who played David on the HBO series, didn't even know about his character's death until the cast did the episode's read-through. He told Vulture that Lena Dunham later apologized for not warning him. "Afterwards Lena was like, 'I’m so sorry I forgot to tell you,'" he said. "I really felt like a Voodoo doll. I felt a pin in my heart, like 'Oh, shit.'"

However, Mitchell has a theory for how David ended up "face down in the Hudson river" (according to Gawker). He blames those damn gay phone apps. "I thought he might have had a bad Grindr date," said Mitchell.

"I think it was over by the piers and he was re-creating some late-'70s piers sex," he said. "I think he might have passed out during an orgasm and fell into the Hudson, and drowned and then the other guy ran away."

Plausible? RIP David.
