Papua New Guinea Earthquake: 7.3-Magnitude Temblor Strikes 32 Miles From Panguna

A strong earthquake struck off the western coast of Papua New Guinea on Friday, the USGS reported.

The 7.3-magnitude temblor hit about 32 miles west of Panguna.

According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center/NOAA/NWS, the quake is not likely to generate a "destructive widespread tsunami threat."

A staffer at the Geophysical Observatory in Port Moresby told The Associated Press that there have been no reports of damage or unusual wave activity along the coastline.
