The Guardian and The Washington Post have won the most prestigious of the Pulitzer Prizes—Public Service—for their reporting on the NSA.
The 2014 awards were announced on Monday afternoon at Columbia University.
The reporting by the staffs of the Guardian and the Post—most prominently Greenwald, Poitras and Gellman—dominated the media and political landscape throughout 2013. The three journalists had been widely tipped for a Pulitzer.
Other major winners included the Boston Globe, which won the Breaking News prize for its reporting on the Boston Marathon bombing, and the Center For Public Integrity, which took home the Investigative Reporting prize.
The New York Times won two Pulitzers for photography.
