For the last 37 years, Dr. Dean Ornish, M.D., Huffington Post Medical Editor and founder and president of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute, has been directing a series of studies looking at treating disease through lifestyle change.
"Our body has this remarkable capacity to begin healing," he said at Thrive, The Huffington Post's second conference on redefining success beyond the two metrics of money and power.
Through lifestyle changes, heart disease, early-stage prostate cancer, diabetes and even aging seem to be reversed, he said.
But, he said, new science doesn't transform medical practice overnight.
