From the get-go, giving back was part of fashion designer Tory Burch's business plan. But it wasn't easy.
"I went to fundraise," she said at Thrive, The Huffington Post's second Third Metric conference on redefining success beyond the two metrics of money and power, "and I was told never to say 'philanthropy' or 'social responsibility' in the same sentence as business, which I thought was archaic."
It wasn't charity, but rather empowerment, that become part of the DNA of her brand, she said.
