'Kitten Killer' Throws Son's Pet Off Balcony: Police

An Arizona mom is charged with felony animal cruelty after police said she allegedly threw her son's kitten off a third-floor balcony. The tiny cat died as a result.

Patricia Gaffin was arrested at her Phoenix home Sunday morning after a neighbor called 911.

"This lady was screaming at her kids. She was threatening them and then all of the sudden, she threw this 2-week-old cat off the third story balcony because it peed on her," neighbor Adriana Rivera, who placed the call, told KTVK.

The 49-year-old told police investigators that she was a "kitten killer," according to KPHO. She said she threw the cat off the balcony because it urinated on the apartment's new carpeting.

When she went before a judge Tuesday, a sobbing Gaffin said that it was all an accident, and that she would never hurt an animal.

Gaffin was released following her hearing and is due back in court May 12.
