Dad Takes Newborn Son To Soccer Match Because He Simply Had To

The kid is a born sports fan.

Just hours after he was delivered Friday night, Arlo Roach attended an English soccer match Saturday afternoon.

He got there courtesy of pop Anthony Roach, who simply couldn't miss Torquay United's final game before it was booted to a lower league, the Torquay Herald Express reported. Apparently he wanted young Arlo to see it, too.

After 29 hours of labor, Arlo's mother and Roach's girlfriend, Rebekah Bancroft, passed Arlo to dad upon their discharge from the hospital, the outlet noted. "We only managed to arrive at halftime but thankfully that meant he only had to watch one of the three goals we let in!" Roach told the paper after Torquay's shutout loss. writes that it's OK to take a newborn out for fresh air from Day One, "but it's best to avoid large, crowded, enclosed places with poor ventilation (like the mall) until your baby is 6 to 8 weeks, which limits her exposure to airborne germs that could be dangerous for her immature immune system."

British soccer fans can be rather, um, fanatical. Last year a Manchester United loyalist actually called England's version of 911 to report a crime: that a United player unfairly received a red card.

Stateside, a new dad caused a bit of a stir last month: New York Mets baseball player Daniel Murphy missed two games to be with his wife and newborn son, and he got ripped by sports show hosts for doing so.
