Louie Gohmert: Obama 'Empowering Radical Islamists' Instead Of Protecting Christians

Texas Lawmaker Accuses Obama Of 'Empowering Radical Islamists' Instead Of Protecting Christians

President Barack Obama is "empowering radical Islamists" like Boko Haram by promoting policies that led to the militant group's kidnapping of 276 Nigerian schoolgirls last month, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) alleged in a Wednesday interview with World Net Daily.

"As someone whose cousins were Christian missionaries in Africa, I have a difficult time watching the current administration appear to spend more time empowering radical Islamists in various countries than defending or protecting Christians," Gohmert said.

Gohmert advised the Obama administration to emulate former President George W. Bush's strategy in the War on Terror, without investing in any nation-building efforts.

"If this administration went after Boko Haram the way Bush went after the Taliban, a few hundred special ops and intelligence personnel could be embedded, give air support, then totally defeat them without repeating the Bush administration's mistake when they added tens of thousands of troops that became 'occupiers,' and engaged in nation-building," Gohmert said.

Earlier this month, Gohmert also took to the House floor to blame former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for the April 14 kidnappings, accusing Clinton -- who left office 14 months before the abduction -- of protecting Islamic terrorists.

"What happened here is obvious, although the commentariat is loath to connect the dots," Gohmert said, citing the State Department’s decision to omit Boko Haram from its list of foreign terrorist organizations after their bombing of U.N. headquarters in Abuja in 2011. "Ms. Clinton, like the Obama administration more broadly, believes that appeasing Islamists ... promotes peace and stability."
