600 Yogis Peacefully Took Over New York's Massive Art Museum

Sometimes being in a museum -- a vast, quiet space punctuated by buzzing colors and shapes -- feels like engaging in a sort of meditation. Other times, 600 yogis infiltrate the museum space and make the meditative experience far more literal.

Last night New York's Museum of Modern Art transformed into the classiest yoga studio ever. Hundreds of yoga enthusiasts, dressed in white, the color of peace, rolled through many a Saṃsāra cycle amongst masterpieces by Manet, Gauguin, Picasso and many more. The mindful experiment was part of the Lolë White Tour, bringing yoga to museums around the world. Lolë, a Canadian lifestyle and activewear brand, has been exploring unconventional, yoga-centric events for the past three years.

“It’s moving to see so many yogis gathered in such majestic places. Practicing yoga surrounded by works of art and hundreds of like-minded people allows for profound exploration and reflection, and a shared sense of collective energy. It is truly a unique experience for body and soul,” said Bernard Mariette, Lolë’s President and CEO. Indeed, imagining hundreds of child's poses amongst Modern artworks is enough to zen us out just thinking about it.

The event, led by yoga instructors Colleen Saidman Yee, Elena Brower and Rodney Yee, celebrated the launch of a New York Lolë store, set to open its SoHo doors on June 2, 2014. See the "Om "in action below and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
