It seems impossible to put the overwhelming demands society places on women into words. But sometimes a picture can capture them perfectly.
Besana's photographs show the daily conflicts of modern womanhood, including the difficulty of adhering to beauty ideals, pressure to be a perfect mother and the drudgery of going to work for unequal pay.
"I wanted to create a discussion and represent a contradiction," Besana told The Huffington Post in an email. "[Women are expected] to be 'appropriate' and 'empowered' all at once, which can create conflict, and this is what 'Under Pressure' is about."
