Courtney Love Reveals Kurt Cobain Was 'Desperate' For Fame

National Geographic makes a bold claim with the title of its latest miniseries, "The '90s: The Last Great Decade." A new clip from the show explores the rise of Nirvana and the relationship between Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. In the video below, Love asserts that her late husband wanted to be famous more than he let on.

"He wanted it bad," said Love. "He wrote to every major, minor label. We'll pay. Let us be on your label. Just desperate to be the biggest rock star in the world, absolutely desperate. He made it look like it was thrust upon him."

In an interview, Cobain said, "I'm too stubborn to allow myself to ever compromise our music to turn us into big rock stars." Love and Cobain also separately comment on the controversial 1992 Vanity Fair profile in which Lynn Hirschberg insinuated that Love may have shot heroin while pregnant.

The clip also contains interviews with "Nevermind" producer Butch Vig and "Beverly Hills, 90210" star Shannen Doherty. The National Geographic series premieres July 6, with reflections on Bill Clinton's presidency, "The Real World," Jerry Springer and the Macarena.
