Jesus Loves All The World Cup Teams

Jesus Loves All The World Cup Teams

Some Catholic soccer fans fear that Pope Francis will pray for his Argentinian home team to win the World Cup, but we're pleased to report that at least Jesus is staying unbiased.

Rio's Christ the Redeemer statue was lit up in the colors of all the participating teams on the eve of the highly-anticipated tournament.

"Today we have a special lighting in the colors of the flags of the countries that take part in the World Cup and which will be represented here," said Omar Raposo, a priest from Christ the Redeemer. "It is a beautiful homage because Christ the Redeemer is universal and shelters us, and with him we can find faith and love."

For the record, Pope Francis has promised to keep his personal preferences out of the World Cup, after Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff asked him to stay neutral. Brazil and Argentina are historic rivals.
