There's An Entire World Of Psychedelic Wonder Hiding In This Piece Of Wood

A visual artist has found life and beauty in a very unexpected place: wood grains.

Keith Skretch, an artist who specializes in video design installations, posted his project “Waves of Grain” on Vimeo in November. The clip, which is just too mesmerizing not to share, shows the excitement hidden deep within layers of wood.

Skretch created the video by planing down a chunk of pine fencepost and taking a picture after each layer.

"Once I got the rhythm down the stop-motion shoot wasn't too bad," he told The Huffington Post in an e-mail. "It took about 3 hours to get 365 shots."

While the video is mesmerizing, Skretch believes there's hidden meaning in its creation.

"Of course I want viewers to go wherever the piece takes them, but I like the contradiction involved in a process of animation (literally "giving life") that is destructive, especially with an organic material," he said. "It's nice when contradictions are beautiful."

According to the bio on his website, Skretch usually designs video for installations and live performances around the world. "Waves of Grain" became an official selection at several film festivals.
