When "Parenthood" drew to a close, we worried that the season finale might have to also end the series. We now know for certain that there are 13 more heartrending episodes left before we finally say goodbye to the Bravermans, though not before a "huge challenge" that will affect the entire family.
Popsugar reports that during NBC's Summer TCA day on Sunday, showrunner Jason Katims explained how one major storyline will run through the entirety of this sixth and final installment:
One of the things I wanted to do with this season is to find one larger story that informs everybody and influences everybody on the show and has a huge effect on all the characters on the show. It's a story that will be introduced on the first episode and will play throughout the season. It's a huge challenge for this family and the kind that we hadn't seen before. I want to do something that starts right at the beginning of the season so that the audience is right there with them. By the way, there will be as many story lines as there always are going on in the show, but it's something that will track us through the entire year.
So, there you have it. Wild speculations include Zeek slowly dying, Camille slowly dying and/or Crosby's mold cropping up again. One thing's for sure, though: There will be plenty of good ol' "Parenthood" tears to be cried.
