There's no use in pretending that "The Hotwives of Orlando" isn't directly spoofing Bravo's famed "Real Housewives" franchise. Luckily, it sounds like the new Hulu series has received an extraordinarily warm welcome from those whom it drew inspiration.
"Andy Cohen, I know, has reached out a couple of times and he has sort of blessed the show, so the pope has spoken," Andrea Savage, actress on "Hotwives of Orlando," told HuffPost Live's Nancy Redd.
"A couple of the Real Housewives have contacted [fellow cast member] Danielle [Schenider], and everyone that we've heard from so far is very excited. Like truly, 'cause you know people are like 'you think they're going to be offended?' -- I'm like, really? They're going to be thrilled! It's like getting spoofed on 'Saturday Night Live' or something -- it's a compliment."
The series shows Savage, known for her viral Funny Or Die video "Republicans Get In My Vagina," also starring comedic actresses Kristin Schaal, Casey Wilson, Angela Kinsey and Tymberlee Hill, among others.
Hill, too, joined HuffPost Live on Monday, where she explained that her character, Phe Phe, is mostly based on "Real Housewives Of Atlanta" cast member NeNe Leakes.
"She's got some Phaedra [of 'Real Housewives of Atlanta'] in there," she said, "wearing all the hats and getting it all done. But [she's] mostly NeNe Leakes."
Meanwhile, Savage describes her character, Veronica Von Vandervon, as an amalgamation of two ladies from different casts of the "Real Housewives" franchise.
"I'm a mix of people too -- I'm a mix of Lisa Vanderpump [of 'Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills'] and Sonja [of 'Real Housewives of New York']. That's what I was told," she recounted. "[The writers] brought all the franchises together."
