Father Of Missing 3-Year-Old Tommy Engle Is 'Homicidal,' Police Say

An Amber Alert has been issued in Virginia for 3-year-old Tommy Lee Able Engle. Authorities say the boy was abducted by his father, who's described as armed and dangerous.

Police believe the child's Father, Tommy Lee Travis Engle, 34, took him from a residence in Critz, Virginia on Tuesday evening.

Police say the elder Engle has made "suicidal and homicidal threats."

"[The father] may be armed with AK-47 and in possession of ballistics vest," authorities said Wednesday.

Police say they have had some contact with the father and that he has been uncooperative and refuses to return his son.

The father, police said, sent them several text messages early Wednesday that contained photos of his son. A GPS signal from the father's cellphone indicates the pair was traveling on Interstate 77.

Investigators believe Engle is taking his son to Canada, but they haven't explained why he may be heading there.

Tommy Lee Able Engle is three-feet tall and weighs 35 pounds. He has blue eyes and short blonde hair. His father is 6'3" tall and weighs 200 pounds. He has brown eyes and brown hair.

The father and son may be traveling in a 2001 navy blue Dodge Neon with Virginia license plate WNZ-9169.

Police believe Tommy Lee Able Engle is in immediate danger and are asking that anyone with information contact the Patrick County Sheriff's Office at (276) 694-3161, the Virginia State Police at (800) 822-4453 or 1-800-VA- CHILD.
