97-Year-Old Crosses Life Goal Of Driving A Big Rig Off Bucket List

They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but they never said anything about trucks.

Meet Vera Abruzzi, a great-grandmother who's spent the last 80 years wishing she could drive a semi-truck. On Wednesday, thanks to the efforts of her grandson, the 97-year-old's dream finally came true.

Abruzzi spent the day behind the wheel of a 70-foot big rig, and, guided by instructors from Winsor's Tractor Trailer Driving School, got to drive around a parking lot in Linden, New Jersey.

"I want to experience a real 18 wheeler," Abruzzi said in a media release before the big day. "I have always been intrigued by big trucks, and I look forward to Wednesday -- almost as much as anything my whole life. It’s been a long time coming!"

After the ride, her instructor told WABV-TV she had no problem navigating the truck's gear system up to 20 mph. Abruzzi responded, "If I was on the highway, I'd go 90."
