Robin Williams’ passing has ignited a national conversation around mental illness.
Jenny Harmon, who’s been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, joined HuffPost Live host Nancy Redd to discuss the public response to Robin Williams’ suicide.
“It’s upsetting to me that the only time we talk about this is when there’s a national tragedy or when someone who’s very popular dies,” said Harmon. “I would love to see us talk about this all the time and for it to become as much a championed issue as breast cancer, colon cancer, heart disease.”
So what can we do to bring more awareness of mental illness? According to Harmon, the conversation needs to keep going, extending beyond times of tragedy.
