Emmys Best Dressed List: The 2014 Award Show Was Filled With Gorgeous, Ethereal Gowns

We're not exaggerating when we say that the stars were red hot at the 2014 Emmy Awards. Red was the color of the night with celebs like Heidi Klum, Octavia Spencer and Julia Louis-Dreyfus wearing the rich hue. Meanwhile, Kerry Washington proved that orange really is the new black and Sarah Silverman made a serious case for forest green.

Check out the best-dressed stars of the night and let us know if you agree with our picks.

Heidi Klum in Zac Posen

Heidi Klum finally found a dress worthy of her. First of all, the color is perfection on her complexion. The draping is also spectacular -- she looks about 10 feet tall.

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji

Spencer seems to always wear Tadashi Shoji -- and for a good reason, his designs fit her like a glove. The different fabrics create visual interest, while her statement earrings draw your eyes towards her glowing skin. A+, Ms. Spencer.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Carolina Herrera

Seriously, has she ever looked better? Louis-Dreyfus' column dress showcases all her best features, while the thin belt defines her most narrow part. Had this dress not been red it might have fallen a little flat, but this hue is amazing on her skin tone.

Allison Williams in Giambattista Valli

This is how one wears a ball gown on the red carpet. It doesn't look like it belongs at a prom or at a wedding. Her dress makes a statement, but it isn't wearing her. The extra touches -- like the black bow and pink bodice -- ensure that it is appropriate for the 26-year-old actress.

Kerry Washington in Prada

This is a fashion girl's dress. The strapless orange dress with the peekaboo black embellished skirt is fashion-forward and edgy. It was totally unexpected, but in all the right ways. We are glad Washington is still taking fashion risks -- they are certainly paying off.

Sarah Silverman in Marni

Clearly this funny girl takes style very seriously. Her cleavage is impeccable and the embellished belt adds a little something special.

Kate Mara in J. Mendel

Between the asymmetrical skirt, the cut-outs up top and the embellishments around the neckline, this outfit is a real show-stopper.

Julia Roberts in Elie Saab

julia roberts

Those. Legs. It's rare to see a cocktail length dress on the red carpet, but we're so happy Roberts took the risk. Everything from the oversized beading to the plunging neckline is so well-thought out -- we can't look away.

Kristen Wiig in Vera Wang

Silk charmeuse is hard to wear, but Wiig has the body to pull it off. She looks comfortable yet so elegant.

Michelle Monaghan in Giambattista Valli

Sometimes, less is more. This dress is so sexy because of its minimalist approach. The extremely high-slit at the front keeps it interesting, but it's really the expert tailoring that has landed this gown on the best-dressed list.

Lizzy Caplan in Donna Karan

We're not sure what's better: The back of this dress or the front. The dramatic gown is quite possibly the best of the night. And it's not wearing her, which is quite a feat.
