WWE Invites Michael Sam To 'Raw'

Michael Sam Gets A 'Raw' Deal

Michael Sam, cut by the St. Louis Rams despite a solid preseason, could make a move in another professional arena if he wants.

World Wrestling Entertainment took to Twitter Monday to invite Sam to appear Sept. 8 on "Raw," its USA Network Monday wrestling show. The upcoming edition will take place in Baltimore.

The organization explained further Tuesday, writing on its website that Sam would be given an "open forum" to discuss his situation.

While the long-running program has reach -- it was the second most-watched Monday cable show last week in the 18-to-49-year-old age bracket -- some social media users dismissed the WWE'S invite as frivolous.

"Cheap publicity stunt" one Twitter user wrote. "Am I drunk or is this a real thing?" another sniped.

Sam, the first openly gay player drafted by the NFL, did not make the 53-man cut and was not chosen for the Rams' practice squad, either, after an exhibition season in which he recorded 11 tackles and 3 sacks. He is now a free agent.
