Martha Coakley Slams GOP Opponent For Wavering On Roger Goodell

Massachusetts Attorney General and Democratic gubernatorial nominee Martha Coakley blasted her GOP opponent, Charlie Baker, in a video released Friday, responding to his recent comments on National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell.

"If we fired everybody every time we got into one of these situations, I don't know. I would like to see more. I would like to see more data and more information," Baker told reporters on Thursday, responding to a question about whether Goodell should be fired over the recent domestic violence scandals plaguing the league.

"I know I don't need more data to make a decision," Coakley said in a taped response released by her campaign on Friday. "I know that anyone who understands this issue, who's worked with victims and survivors as I had, who pays attention or hears the voices of women who've been abused. I don't think it's a hard call. I think he should resign."

The Arizona Cardinals' Jonathan Dwyer was arrested Wednesday on charges of aggravated assault, becoming the latest in a string of football players to come under fire over domestic violence accusations.

"Unlike Charlie Baker, women don't need to see a video to know what domestic violence is and we don't need more data to know that the Commissioner should resign or be fired," Coakley said in a campaign release.

"The NFL has for too long not taken domestic violence seriously and a change at the top is the only way to begin to change that culture," she noted.
