Longtime Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.) was re-elected Tuesday, defeating Democrat Sue Savary in the race to represent California's 48th Congressional District.

Rohrabacher, first elected to the House in 1988, is one of the Republican Party's leading marijuana reform advocates. Earlier this year, he told the Christian Science Monitor that he would vote in favor of legalizing recreational pot if it were on the ballot in California, becoming the first House Republican to voice support for such a measure. He was also the sponsor of an amendment blocking the federal government from targeting medical marijuana patients and growers.

Savary, Rohrabacher's opponent, is the CEO of a management consulting firm.
