'Orange Is The New Black' Stars To Go Purple For Spirit Day

These 'OITNB' Stars Have An Important Queer Message For You

It's that time of year again -- time to take a stand against the bullying of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth by making a statement through your clothing.

Spirit Day, an annual event during which individuals are encouraged to wear purple in solidarity with bullied LGBT youth, will take place on Oct. 16. In recognition of this, "Orange Is The New Black" stars Selenis Leyva and Yael Stone have recorded a message encouraging you to join the thousands of people taking part in Spirit Day this year.

Fellow 'OITNB' star and transgender activist Laverne Cox is also celebrating Spirit Day in a major way -- by lighting the Empire State Building purple alongside a number of transgender youth featured in the upcoming MTV documentary "Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word," airing on Oct. 17.

This is reportedly the first time that the Empire State Building will go purple for Spirit Day.
