Tony Strickland Defeated By Fellow Republican In House Race

Former California state Sen. Tony Strickland was defeated by fellow Republican Steve Knight in the race to represent the Golden State's 25th Congressional District.

Strickland and Knight, a current state Senator, both advanced in June's open primary, making the race one of the few intraparty contests in the state this cycle.

Strickland had initially planned to run in the neighboring 26th District, where he lost to Democrat Julia Brownley in 2012. However, after longtime Republican Rep. Buck McKeon decided to retire from the Southern California district, Strickland switched his candidacy to the 25th, seeking better odds.
