How To Stay Sane When Adult Children Move Home

Motherhood came early for Rhonda Vargas, 46, of Yakima, WA. She had her first of four children at 16, and since those early days as young parents, Vargas and her husband, Esiquio, haven’t had the house to themselves. Even after the grown children left, they’d boomerang back and settle—sometimes with their kids. Which is not all that unusual these days: A 2014 Gallup poll indicates that 14% of adults ages 24-34 live at home with their parents, and about half of 18-23 year olds haven’t left yet.
