Soldier Dad Makes Sweet Surprise Visit To See His Newborn In The Maternity Ward

While stationed in the Middle East, National Guard soldier John Vorrath watched his wife give birth to their daughter Charlotte on an iPad, WHO TV reports. But that didn't stop him from surprising his family and meeting his new baby in the hospital.

While his wife was in labor, Sergeant Vorrath finally received the clearance he needed to go home for a visit. After 22 hours of travel, the dad arrived at home in Iowa and surprised his wife and their then 1-day-old daughter in the hospital. A friend captured the soldier's homecoming in a video that he later uploaded to YouTube, where it now has almost one million views.

"She's so small!" the dad says as he holds his new daughter in the video. The sweet reunions continue, as John then sees his 2-year-old son for the first time since he was deployed. "You're so big!" he tells his toddler.

Pass the tissues, please.
