Beaufille Is The New Label You're Going To Want To Know About

There is something about sibling design-duos -- like Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, Danielle and Jodie Snyder of Dannijo, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen of The Row -- that just makes sense. Perhaps the engrained sense of loyalty and trust that exists amongst family has something to do with it.

And now you can add Canadian sisters Chloe and Parris Gordon of Beaufille to the list. They have been designing since 2013 and have a collection that fuses bohemian sensibilities with rock influences -- think chiffon prairie dresses, leather backpacks and brass ear pieces. Both trained at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design -- Chloe, 27, studied textile design and fashion construction and creates the clothing, while Parris, 24, studied jewelry design and metalsmithing and is the brains behind the jewelry and the accessories.

Though Beaufille has yet to become a fixture on the global fashion circuit, we imagine it's only a matter of time. We caught up with Parris and Chloe to find out a little more about their burgeoning label. Here's what we learned:

Who is the girl you're designing for?

Parris Gordon: We describe our girl as the "effortlessly chic tomboy." But I think both men, women, socialites and rock stars suit our wares. Someone who's relaxed, laid-back, not looking to be clad in the latest trend and has an eye for detail, art, and originality.

If your clothes/jewelry were in a department store, which designers do you think they would be next to?

PG: For jewelry I'd say Pamela Love, Eddie Borgo, Vita Fede, Jennifer Meyer, Aurélie Bidermann -- the contemporary jewelry market.

Chloe Gordon: For ready-to-wear I’d say JW Anderson, Phillip Lim, Isabel Marant, Rodarte, Carven -- to name a few.

What has been the biggest challenge you've faced so far?

PG: Sales. Getting the product out there on a global scale. Buyers are tricky and seem more hesitant to take risks. We have a really great product, [but] getting it to catch on in a sales context has been tricky. People like a lot of the same thing... it's time to switch it up and diversify the designers placed in a department store!

Which celebrities/models would you love to see in your designs?

PG: We shot our first Beaufille lookbook with Langley Fox [and] since then she's been requesting and rocking samples. She is totally our type of girl. Dakota Johnson modeled our collaboration lookbook with our good friend's company, Littledoe. We would love to see our stuff on likes of Zoe Kravitz, the Haim girls, Lou Doillon and Caroline de Maigret -- badass girls.
