Three Girls? ‘I Feel Sorry For Their Father'

Recently, I took my 10- and 6-year-old daughters to their “well visits,” at the pediatrician’s office. We crammed into a room not much larger than a pantry, where they were duly weighed and measured, and praised for eating fruits and vegetables, minimizing screen time and engaging in an hour’s worth of physical activity each day. At the end of the appointment, the nurse — who had spent the past hour whizzing through a detailed rubric designed to measure the girls’ health — paused while scanning their digital charts, blinking at the screen.
