“The long-range goal is to prepare kids to become independent,” Dr. Phil explains in his Tip of the Day. "Even your discipline should be done in a way that they will internalize it so that they can discipline themselves when you’re not around. It’s so important that you understand that you are raising adults, not children. Will they be independent? Will they be confident? Will they be self-reliant? Will they grow up not needing everyone else’s OK?"
