The Vine stars, who boast millions of followers across their social media platforms and are making their big screen debut in “Expelled,” spilled the secret to their online success during a HuffPost Live interview last week.
Johns offered a few words of advice for companies looking to capitalize on the power of social media.
“Be an individual. I mean, obviously it’s hard for a brand, for a corporation, to have a huge following,” he said.
While originality and creativity play a huge part in crafting a powerful online presence, Johns also stressed the importance of finding a “people story” within each social media idea.
“People always like people, you know? It’s hard to sell a brand without having a face to it,” he added.
But if nothing catches on, don’t fret. As Johns explained, most viral online content happens organically.
“Sometimes it’s not anything that you can choose. I think most people on the internet know it’s like the people choose,” he said. “That’s the weird thing about the Internet. You never know. You can’t be like, ‘Alright, I’m going to make this viral!’ You just put stuff out there and you hope that people engage and resonate with it."
