Body Found In Parking Lot Outside Elementary School

Sunnyside Elementary School in Pittsburgh was on lockdown after a body was found in the parking lot, KDKA reports.

Police and paramedics rushed to the school in Stanton Heights, where they reportedly found the body of a man in his vehicle. Pittsburgh Public Schools Spokeswoman Ebony Pugh told the Post-Gazette that all 332 children were safe inside the school, which initiated a lockdown at 2:51 p.m.

"An individual was found lifeless in a vehicle in the parking lot. It appears to be a shooting incident," Pugh said.

Pittsburgh police believe that the body may have been in the vehicle overnight. A passerby noticed the body -- a young black male whose age wasn't immediately confirmed -- earlier in the day. The incident may be linked to a report of shots fired in the area at 11 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Post-Gazette.

WPXI reports that the body was found during dismissal. Students were initially brought back inside the school during the lockdown, but they were released to their parents at 4 p.m.
