A man was attacked and killed by his beloved pet pit bull on Christmas day.
Blanca Rodriguez discovered her dog, Fat Boy, with blood on his mouth and her boyfriend, 40-year-old Eddie Cahill, dead at the couple's home in Portage, Indiana, according to WGN. Cahill was covered in dog bites.
"The dogs were his life," Rodriguez told WGN.
Fat Boy was apprehended by police who had to use a Taser to control him. He was later put to sleep.
Rodriguez told WGN that the dog had no prior violent incidents, but a police report obtained by NBC Chicago tells a different story.
According to the report, Rodriguez told police that Fat Boy was aggressive in the past and had bitten her and her son previously.
While pit bulls can obviously be vicious, and are frequently portrayed as such in the media, research has provided evidence to suggest they are not inherently dangerous. They are one of the most tolerant dogs in existence, according to the American Temperament Test Society.
