Vladimir Putin has been called a lot of names over the years, but chances are this is a first.
Responding to comments President Barack Obama made concerning the annexation of Crimea and Russia's recent economic woes in an interview with NPR, Fox News contributor Ralph Peters offered viewers his thoughts on the Russian president, drawing a comparison between Putin and civil rights activist/MSNBC host Al Sharpton.
“If you follow the Russian media, [Putin] has created an alternative reality for the Russian people,” Peters said. “He is sort of Al Sharpton with nukes, creating this cult of victimhood, victimhood, victimhood for the Russian people.”
Peters also noted some differences between Putin -- who has served as president of Russia on and off for over a decade -- and the average American politician.
“Vladimir Putin is going to be the head of state in Russia long after Obama has been consigned to the ash heap of history,” Peters said, adding that Obama shouldn't be so quick to declare victory in the Crimea debacle. “Putin is suffering a setback, but he’s not a Washington milquetoast who just quits. Putin is in this for the long-term.”
Peters concluded his rant with yet another last minute dig at President Obama.
"He doesn't understand Putin. He doesn't understand Russians," Peters said. "And we shouldn't be surprised because President Obama, unfortunately, also doesn't understand the American people."
