Police are scouring Central London for a woman they say walked into a pharmacy and randomly tried to choke a 1-year-old baby in another woman's stroller.
Security video shows the attacker, wearing a striped poncho and a hat with ear flaps, walk calmly into the pharmacy at about 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 16 and approach the mother and her baby. The suspect appears to reach into the stroller while the stunned mom and a security guard look on.
Initially, the mom thought the woman was just trying to see the baby up close. But when she saw the attack, she pulled the woman's hand away.
The Metropolitan Police report that the suspect said, "That baby would rather be dead" as she was escorted out of the store by a security guard. She was last seen walking toward Trafalgar Square.
The baby wasn't injured "because of his mother's quick reaction," police said. But the suspect is still on the loose. Cops describe her as in her 60s, 5-foot-2 with a chubby build, light colored hair and a boil or eye deformity on her face.
