SEATTLE (AP) — The man who married his former sixth-grade teacher after she was imprisoned for raping him says their relationship hasn't always been good, but they've persevered.

Vili Fualaau and Mary Kay Letourneau discussed their lives together with Barbara Walters in an interview that will air on ABC News' "20/20" Friday night. Fualaau told Walters: "I don't think there's ever a full 10 good years of marriage. ... But, you know, what matters is how you pull through all the bad times."

Letourneau is a former suburban Seattle teacher who became tabloid fodder in the 1990s when she was convicted of raping the then-12-year-old Fualaau.

She served a prison sentence and then married him. Letourneau is now 53, and Fualaau is 31. They have two teenage daughters.
