Dr. Oz Responds To Critics: 'We Will Not Be Silenced'

Dr. Mehmet Oz marked his 1000th show on Tuesday with a defiant message to critics.

The TV show host was responding to the 10 physicians who emailed a letter to Columbia University's dean of health sciences and medicine calling on the school to fire Oz.

In the letter, the doctors said they were "surprised and dismayed" that Oz holds a faculty position at the Ivy League school, accusing the cardiothoracic surgeon of having an "egregious lack of integrity by promoting quack treatments and cures in the interest of personal financial gain."

Dr. Oz, who is no stranger to attacks from critics discrediting his medical advice, first responded on Facebook by saying that he and his show "provide multiple points of view." He added that he would address the situation on his show Thursday.

On Tuesday evening, Oz stuck true to his word, accusing the doctors of trying to quiet his freedom of speech.

"I know I've irritated some potential allies in our quest to make America healthy," he said, speaking directly into the camera. "No matter our disagreements, freedom of speech is the most fundamental right we have as Americans. And these 10 doctors are trying to silence that right."

"So I vow to you right here and right now: we will not be silenced, we will not give in," he concluded.
