'Grey's Anatomy' Barrels Ahead After Derek Shepherd's Death

If you have not seen "Grey's Anatomy" Season 11, Episode 22, "She's Leaving Home," DO NOT continue reading. Spoilers ahead!

Fans of "Grey's Anatomy" were still recovering from last week's episode and had barely accepted that Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) was actually killed off, when their fears were confirmed -- it wasn't a horrible dream sequence. This week, viewers watched as Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) dealt with the death her husband.

Thursday's two-hour tear-jerker of an episode spanned many months, as a heartbroken Meredith disappeared with her two children and cut off communication from her friends and colleagues at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital after Derek's funeral.

Fans were understandably furious over the loss of the beloved character, but they were offered up a new Grey-Shepherd baby as somewhat of a peace-offering. Later on in the episode, Meredith gives birth to a daughter she names after her own mother, Ellis, and returns home to Seattle.

In the months after Derek's death, the rest of the staff at Grey Sloan Memorial grieved in very different ways, and the show pretty much tried to give viewers an emotional breakdown with this montage of Derek and Meredith's life together:

With two more episodes left in the season, there are sure to be MANY more tears to follow.

"Grey's Anatomy" airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
