Dwight Howard Spent The Night At Houston Arena Due To Floods

Dwight Howard had 14 points and 12 rebounds to help the Houston Rockets stave off elimination in Game 4 of the playoffs against the Golden State Warriors in a 128-115 victory in Houston on Monday night.

But he wasn't about to take on flood waters. After the Toyota Center issued a warning for visitors to wait out a deluge at game's end around 11 p.m., Howard and hundreds of others stayed put through the wee hours.

"There's no need to try to push it," Howard told the Houston Chronicle. "I don't think it's smart for anybody to try to be out in this weather."

More than 9 inches of rain was reported overnight in at least one area of Houston. By 5:45 a.m. CT, about 100 fans remained in the arena, CBS in Houston reported.

For fans who got stuck, they did have the benefit of meeting Howard, who hung out with the crowd.

"I feel like I'm home," he told reporters. "[I] hope everybody's safe."

ESPN reported that as of 3:15 a.m. ET, Howard was still in the arena, but did not confirm what time the player left.
