Demi Lovato Says She 'Wouldn't Be Alive' Without Wilmer Valderrama

Demi Lovato has never shied away from discussing her deeply personal struggles, ranging from her recovery from bulimia and drug addiction to her battles with cutting and bipolar disorder.

Rehab stints and therapy have helped the world-famous pop star, but there's one person she credits for saving her life altogether: her boyfriend, actor Wilmer Valderrama.

"He'll never take credit for a lot of my sobriety and my recovery, but I guarantee it, I wouldn't be alive without him today," she told HuffPost Live in a Thursday conversation to promote bipolar awareness, in conjunction with Be Vocal.

While the couple still wishes to keep their personal lives private, the "Neon Lights" singer admits she's grown more comfortable showcasing her relationship in public as of late.

"We've been in a relationship, on and off, for almost five years, and now, as time has gone on, people are seeing us more together and we thought, you know what? If paparazzi gets us, then whatever, but we're in control about what we're able to post online," Lovato explained. "So we're very open about our relationship. I don't know -- I think as I get older and more serious in my life, I just am proud. I'm very proud."
