Bindi Irwin might be "stepping away from khaki" but she’s not quitting on the environment any time soon.
The 16-year-old daughter of the late "Crocodile Hunter," Steve Irwin, spoke with Us Weekly about her ever-changing fashion choices and continuing her dad’s important legacy.
"I’ll always feel most comfortable in khaki surrounded by animals," Irwin explains. "But it is really fun to try different styles."
"I’m kind of stepping away from khaki!"
But one thing Irwin’s not stepping away from is her commitment to the environment. Irwin spends her days running Queensland’s Australia Zoo with her mom, Terri, and her 11-year-old brother, Robert. She also has a show, "Bindi’s Bootcamp," that just hit Netflix, and continues to work with her parents’ Wildlife Warriors organization -- all of which she does in the hopes that her dad would "be proud."
“That’s my end goal,” she tells Us Weekly. “He was like our living, breathing superhero. He was so passionate and clever.”
Earlier this year Irwin shared a grown-up selfie to her Instagram account, and while she’s certainly maturing, she hopes other teens will consider taking a moment to think about their style choices.
“I almost wish I could tell young girls, ‘Look, in 10 years when you look back at yourself, you’ll cringe, honey, honestly,'” she told News Corp Australia last year. “A lot of times I want to grab these girls and say, ‘Look ... in 10 years, you’ll regret this. Just dress like who you are. Don’t try so hard. A pair of jeans and a T-shirt is just as gorgeous and even makes you look classier' ... The way I choose to dress, I want to influence other people around me, I suppose.”
