Rachel Maddow Is 'Really Happy' About Brian Williams Coming To MSNBC

Rachel Maddow opened up to her audience Thursday evening on how she feels about former NBC "Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams joining MSNBC.

NBC News announced Wednesday that Williams will not be returning to "Nightly News" following his six-month suspension. Instead, NBC's Lester Holt will officially take over and Williams will move to MSNBC, where he will be covering breaking news and special reports.

The decision to take Williams off "Nightly News" came after a thorough investigation by the network revealed that the host "made a number of inaccurate statements" while reporting.

And while many Americans believe Williams should resign or be fired for his false claims, Maddow said Thursday that she is "really happy" he is getting a second chance.

"I am really happy that Brian Williams is coming to MSNBC," she said. "He's acknowledged what he did. He's apologized for it, and he has been through the most fantastic humbling experience that you can imagine."

Maddow said this is a chance for Williams to "restart" in a new place, adding that "nobody at this company asked me to make this statement."

"He wants to work his way back into earning people's trust again," she continued. “I think that’s exactly the way that earning second chances should work.”

“I believe in redemption," Maddow concluded. "I believe in second chances.”
