11 Fashion Rules Inspired by French Vogue

When speaking with a friend this past week about fashion icons and comparing notes in terms of who we turn to for fashion inspiration, the name Emmanuelle Alt came up. I had to admit never having heard of her. Google to the rescue -- she is the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Paris. I spent a couple of hours yesterday reading up on her, and was reminded of a few fashion rules and of a few things I need to add to my closet.

  1. When you find a style that works for you (in her case skinny pants, t-shirts or button-downs, and a blazer), work it every way you can.
  2. The right blazer can dress up any outfit, including faded jeans and a white t-shirt.
  3. Every woman should own a pair of black leather pants (#1 item on my shopping list).
  4. Every woman should own a black leather jacket (#2 item on my shopping list).
  5. Skinny cropped pants look best with a pointy heel.
  6. The right belt can make an outfit (#3 item on my shopping list).
  7. Black on black is never out of style.
  8. White pants look great year-round. Especially when paired with a black top.
  9. An Hermes Collier de Chien bracelet looks good with everything and makes everything look better (#1 on my wish list).
  10. Wearing the same clothes or accessories more than once is both normal and chic.
  11. French women are sexy.
