Thanks to PBS and Tavis Smiley, a substantive gathering of Latino leadership that expounds on a broad range of issues and topics is coming to the English-speaking American public. Finally!
On April 6, 2013, 16 paramount leaders drawn from across the country representing a fair slice of the Latino experience, will gather and spend six hours in front of cameras and a LIVE audience delving into range of topics perhaps never before seen by the English-speaking public on national TV.
PBS' LATINO NATION: Beyond the Numbers should begin to answer those prickly questions the public has been asking themselves since the 2010 Census reported that more than fifty million Latinos populate America's neighborhoods, becoming our country's largest minority ethnic group.
True Latinos have always been part of country, as any Southwesterner, New Yorker or Floridian will confirm, yet there is something going on in America's psyche. I suppose it's finally sinking in that America's trillion-dollar, 50-million-person-strong Latino presence is here to stay.
Yet recognizing Latinos in America raises more questions than answers: Who are Latinos? What do they believe? Who speaks for them? WHAT DO THEY WANT???
The results will broadcast on C-SPAN the week of April 29, but, more importantly, on three back-to-back nights on Tavis Smiley on PBS, April 10 -12. Tune in and hopefully your questions will begin to be answered!
