Abilash A. Gopal, M.D. is a psychiatrist and author based in San Francisco. He completed his undergraduate education at Princeton University, medical school at Tufts University, residency at UCSF Department of Psychiatry, where he was Chief Resident, and fellowship at the UCSF Program in Psychiatry and the Law. He also trained at Harvard Medical School, where he completed an apprenticeship in forensic psychiatry and was selected for the Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship.

Dr. Gopal has won numerous awards throughout his career, including the prestigious Rappeport Fellowship, which is awarded to a few outstanding residents throughout the country who have demonstrated a strong record of achievement in forensic psychiatry.

He has an active private practice where he sees adult and adolescent patients weekly for psychotherapy and medication management. He is also a member of the faculty at the UCSF Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Gopal has published multiple books and academic articles within psychiatry, ethics, neuroscience, and the law. He has a forthcoming memoir illustrating his journey as a first generation Indian-American seeking to break free from tradition and stereotypes to realize his authentic self.
