Allan Peterkin

Pognologist, Facial Hair Expert

Allan Peterkin is a pognologist (beard scholar) and facial hair expert. He is the author of One Thousand Beards and the new One Thousand Mustaches: A Cultural History of the Mo, and the co-author of The Bearded Gentleman. His comments on facial hair have appeared in Esquire, Men's Health, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, US, and in the documentary Mansome. He is a doctor and freelance writer in Toronto, Canada.

If he could have dinner with three mustachoied cultural figures (dead or alive), Peterkin would choose Mark Twain (“because of his wit and ability as a raconteur”); Martin Luther King (“because of his vision and heroism”); and Tennessee Williams, (“to go out drinking with!”). In a cruel twist of fate, Allan’s own mustaches grow in rather patchily.
