Andy Birkey

Andy Birkey is a reporter for the American Independent. His writing on LGBT rights, conservative religious movements and Minnesota politics earned him several awards including a First Place by the Society of Professional Journalists for Best Series about a conservative Minnesota ministry. Prior to joining AINN, he was a project coordinator for several different HIV prevention programs. An avid soccer fan, he lives in Minneapolis where he is the head of the Minnesota Jacks, an internationally ranked gay soccer team.
