Cornell Professor of Anthropology & Law
Annelise Riles is the Jack G. Clarke Professor of Law in Far East Legal Studies and Professor of Anthropology at Cornell, and she also serves as Director of the Clarke Program in East Asian Law and Culture. Her research focuses on the relationship between laws, markets and culture in the US, Japan, China and the Pacific Islands. Her latest book, Collateral Knowledge: Legal Reasoning in the Global Financial Markets, based on ten years of fieldwork among regulators and lawyers in the global derivatives markets, will be out soon from Chicago University Press. She also writes about financial market regulation at her blog, collateralknowledge.com.
